Tired of your day job? Looking for a new hobby? Have a big toast coming up at your brother's wedding? Whether you want a career in comedy, or just want to learn how to be a better public speaker, Stand-Up Semester gives you the tools you need to hone your wit.

  • Learn comedy from the pros
  • Guest Q&As with headliners.
  • Perform multiple times, including at The Laughing Devil on a Saturday night

Stand-up Semester is more than just a typical comedy class, as it is taught and developed by working comedians and the owners of the Laughing Devil.

For two hours each session (3PM-5PM on 6 Sundays, starting 4/28), the Laughing Devil state-of-the-art showroom becomes a state-of-the-art classroom, featuring workshops, performance opportunities and critiques, and guest Q&As with some of the best working comedians in the business.

And at the end of the semester, participants get to perform in a show live on a Saturday night, headlined and hosted by the same national acts who are working the club.

Testimonials

"Steve's class was just as much about the psychology, philosophy, and mechanics of stand-up as it was about self presentation, perception and confidence. A unique experience. You can't learn how to be funny but the class helps you channel your personality to a stage ready package."
-Alex Silverberg

"Steve's stand up class was a liberal arts education in stand up, only more useful. Steve took the time and effort to listen to what our rough ideas were, and showed us different ways of making them better. Instead of lecturing us about what to do and turning us into mini-Steves, he explained how to improve our idiosyncratic ideas. He also gave great advice about the business side of stand up: something that no one ever wants to talk about."
-Matt Livitz

"Standup Semester at Laughing Devil was a great way to put yourself out there. Steve and his crew, who are each professional comics in their own right, provide a very fun and enjoyable opportunity to train your on-stage confidence while offering fundamental and critical support that will help lead you to the laughs. I recommend the class to everyone with an urge to get better."
-Kyle Benson

"The comedy workshop at the Laughing Devil taught me many things about technique and stagecraft that would have taken years for me to learn on my own. It really helped me take my floundering open-mic career to the next level. Now I live in Los Angles and sleep with supermodels almost every night. Thanks Laughing Devil!"
-Chuck Reina

"I learned a lot about stand up and feel like I developed a solid set with your help."
-Jordan Tuch

"I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and thank you for your incisive comments about practice performances along with suggestions for improvement. I attribute much of the confidence I exuded to your constant support."
-Matt Sarkowicz

"The class was extremely helpful, not only for helping craft our individual humor but how to move forward with a career in comedy. Thanks for helping make the first steps, the scariest ones, a little easier."
-Kraig Beaudoin

"Hofstetter's advice and critique are valuable for anyone who wants to attempt a career in comedy. It will help them avoid many of the pitfalls that could take years to overcome."
-Jimmy Wohl
